Having Fun - Getting Fit

25-11-2011
Physiotherapist Mark Leighton is currently running a "Having Fun - Getting Fit" program at St Teresa's Catholic Primary School in Newcastle upon Tyne. The course aims to promote physical activity by offering pre-designed physical education programs for primary schools.

To help bones and muscles grow, to improve circulation, and to support brain development, children need a variety and age appropriate exercise options that are often missing from today’s high tech society. Children, especially the younger ones, love to exercise! They depend on parents, teachers and exercise leaders for support to help them get started with exercise and to develop long term exercise habits! “Having Fun – Getting Fit” is a simple yet innovative program that helps children develop in physical, sensory and cognitive ways at school.

The 10 week program is ideal for children between the ages of 5 and 10.  The lessons in the program target the child’s developing musculoskeletal system. They offer a range of exercises that can be adapted according to the varying ages and ability levels of the children.
