As part of your personal injury claim you may be referred by your solicitor for a medical assessment or for treatment services. On Medical provides a venue for independent medical assessments and also for physiotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to assist in your rehabilitation following an accident or injury.
The aim of the medical report is to provide an independent medical assessment of your injuries as part of the claims process for personal injury compensation. The expert will have specialist knowledge of the type of injury you have sustained and will be experienced in providing medical evidence. The medical expert needs to be unbiased and unconnected with the person making the claim.
To help the medical expert understand how you have been affected by your injuries you will be asked about the circumstances of your accident and the treatment you have received for your injuries. You will also be asked about how your injuries affect you, for example at work, day to day activities, and recreational activities. The medical examination is for the purposes of assessment only and no treatment will be provided.
The examination time varies by the type of consultant and the nature of your injuries and can take on average up to 30 minutes or as long as an hour in some cases.
The medical expert may ask you to remove or loosen some of your clothing in order to carry out a physical examination of the injured area.
Your travelling expenses to and from the medical examination may be recoverable by your solicitor if your claim is successful. You should keep all receipts for parking, train, bus or taxi fares and forward them to your solicitor.
Please remember to bring with you some form of photographic identification like a driving license, passport, or ID card if you have one.
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to rearrange an appointment to see a medical expert. If you fail to attend an appointment or give less than 24 hours notice you may incur a charge.
